Artist’s Statement

The art of painting brings light into the unseen world of things. Exposing inner landscapes is a means to invite out a more intimate and alive exchange with life; this is why I paint.

Process starts before the first brush stroke or mark gets made. Preparing the space to paint is a meditative ritual that clears my mind of pre-conceived ideas. Each substrate is greeted with curiosity and an openness to the present moment. Once the first mark is made, a conversation begins. Each footstep is unplanned; a spontaneous dance. I move to the rhythm of what is flowing between me and the empty spaces. A creative flow ensues. Each gesture leads towards the next- until the energy is captured upon the canvas.

The end result is achieved when I can look at a piece and feel the spark of a story being told, leaving room for one’s own journey to be spoken to.
